Last week in our exploration of the Eight Fold Path and the Reiki Precepts, we discussed our moral values and how they effect our conscience. As earning our living takes up much of our time, in order to be happy, our livelihood should agree with our moral values.

The Reiki Precepts teach us to ‘work diligently’. The dictionary defines diligence as earnest and conscientious in carrying out a task. When one is earnest, one is sincere and intent on one’s purpose. To be conscientious is to listen to one’s conscience – one’s moral sense of
right and wrong.

My Reiki Master illustrates this Precept thus:
A sage was asked how to gauge a person’s prosperity. The sage replied that the measure of how prosperous a person was depended upon the amount of peace they could carry in their heart. When a person earns their living honestly, they are not only being honest with others, they are being honest with themselves. They trust in their own abilities to create the abundance they need.
