Reiki Inspired by Buddhism: 6 Right Action

Previous posts in our exploration of the Eight Fold Path and the Reiki Precepts  discussed ‘right intention’ and ‘right speech’. As intentions are often followed by words and words by actions, this week we discuss ‘right action’.

In the Saccavibhanga Sutta, Buddha defines right action as:
“Abstaining from killing living beings, abstaining from taking what is not given and abstaining from misconduct in sensual pleasures.”

In the Reiki Precepts we are taught “be kind to people”. When we combine ‘right speech’ and ‘right action’ we are being kind to people.

When we commit actions that go against our moral values it can lead us to feel guilty or remorseful. When our actions conform to our moral values, we feel good about ourselves.

Do you listen to your conscience?…that quiet voice within that enables you to understand right from wrong. Can you find a few minutes to sit in meditation on the subject of ‘right action’? In doing so, can you define your moral values?
